Dan Aykroyd reckons a Ghostbusters Netflix series could be a thing…

Man, we never get tired of seeing awesome Ghostbusters stuff and we never tire of writing ‘Ghostbusters is back’, so this story has us… excited?

So, here’s the deal, unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll know that Stranger Things Season 2 has landed and (we’ve not seen it yet and it’s killing us) in it the stars of the show (above) dress up for halloween as everyone’s favourite paranormal investigators.

And while we love this – seriously, we’d kill to see a movie based around this concept as these kids are, well, awesome – it got us thinking: could the future of Ghostbusters be on TV? Imagine a live-action Real Ghostbusters where the team face a different supernatural threat roughly 22 times a year?

Well, it seems that we’re not the only ones thinking it.

Ghostbusters and Stranger Things are a match made in heaven and recently while promoting a partnership with Reebok, Dan Aykroyd, the heart of the ghostbusters, was asked if he could see a Netflix Ghostbusters happening to which he replied surprisingly that yeah, it could be a thing:

“Yes. Absolutely. Sure. Sure. I can see several possibilities there. You know? Take a cue from these guys in Stranger Things and maybe have the Ghostbusters in high school or something.”

Now, while this is by no means confirmation that something will happen, anyone following our close reporting on Ghostbusters news will recall that this is not the first time he has mentioned the Ghostbusters in high school (here), so it’s clearly something that he’s been thinking about in one way or another.

How it would work, we have no idea – imagine trying to cast those actors as younger men?! Or maybe it could be a new team of GBs who meet in school and join the paranormal investigators… the comics from IDW currently have Ghostbusters 101 which is basically a class to teach young wannabes how to bust ghosts.

So, look, while the 2016 Ghostbusters movie was far from a screaming success, it didn’t exactly kill the franchise, in fact, rather retro-actively, it seemed to, for many, remind us all of just how amazing this franchise can be.

Some people loved the new movie and that’s awesome as it brings new fans into the fold. Others hated it and that’s fine too as it seemed to simply strengthen their love for the original movies and animated shows.

Either way, Ghostbusters has permeated into every part of pop culture and society and we reckon if moving forward it is treated with proper love and respect, which many felt wasn’t the case with the unnecessary rebooting of a perfectly healthy story (it wasn’t the females that were the issue, just the writing off of all that history), then the fans will come out in droves.

Ghostbusters can be grey again… just handle with care.
