So we have a trailer for the live-action Alita: Battle Angel movie and it’s stunning but… off-putting?!
The movie itself is a live-action adventure starring actors such as Christoph Waltz but has actress Rosa Salazar enhanced with CGI to make her look more faithful to the Manga:
And it does so is wonderful fashion. But also doesn’t.
Alita’s shot in 3D using a stereo imaging system developed by Cameron which has never used in a film until now, which explains why, while looking awesome, it also makes her look very, very unreal… the uncanny valley [the concept that humanoid objects which appear almost, but not exactly, like real human beings elicit uncanny or strangely familiar, feelings of eeriness and revulsion in observers] is strong with her, if you will.
That said, it certainly looks like it’s going to be one to check out… let us know your thoughts, guys.
Twentieth Century Fox can today reveal the first look at James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL with the release of the very first trailer.
Visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY) create a groundbreaking new heroine in ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an action-packed story of hope, love and empowerment.
Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita (Rosa Salazar) is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first. As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, Hugo (Keean Johnson), offers instead to help trigger her memories. A growing affection develops between the two until deadly forces come after Alita and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she’s grown to love. Determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, Alita sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world, and discover that one young woman can change the world in which she lives.
Rosa Salazar stars as Alita, a cyborg with a forgotten past, found and brought back to life by cyber-doctor Ido (Christoph Waltz). Based on the manga series by Yukito Kishiro, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL also stars Keean Johnson, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali and Jackie Earle Haley and showcases the talents of WETA Workshop.
ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL will arrive in UK cinemas JULY 20, 2018.
