Agents Of Shield Renewed, Inhumans Cancelled

May 15th, 2018 by Todd Black Comments

It was a tough week of waiting, but ABC confirmed that Agents of Shield will indeed come back for a sixth season, and it’s shaping up to be a true finale; meanwhile, ABC confirmed a bit earlier than that Inhumans will not be back.

This really is a tale of two different shows; for while Agents of Shield isn’t a juggernaut, it is somewhat consistent in terms of ratings. And that clearly played a factor into things. However, the sixth season will only be 13 episodes [not unlike what Gotham is getting with its fifth and final season] which makes us wonder if it’ll be used to truly end things without a cliffhanger, which the upcoming season five finale was somewhat slated to be in case they got picked up again.

Meanwhile, Inhumans was DOA basically from the start.

Recall that this was supposed to be part of the MCU, but then because of AOS, they changed things and thought to turn it into a TV series, which backfired hugely? The “highly anticipated” IMAX premiere bombed horribly, and IMAX will likely never do anything like that again. What’s more, from the “reveal” of the cast, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be high production value where it counted. And that’s not even talking about the episodes themselves which got incredibly low ratings and terrible reviews. In fact, Inhuman could easily tie Iron Fist as the worst adaptation of a Marvel character in a TV series in the modern era.

The question now is, if AOS really does end with the sixth season, what will Marvel try and put on ABC? Yes, they still have their Netflix series, and their upcoming streaming service is coming too, but they no doubt want cable to have something, so we’ll have to see how it goes.
