Given that the Final Destination franchise has been over for what feels like five minutes – 2011 in reality – it’s hardly a surprise it’s getting the now tiresome reboot treatment.
The franchise, which saw people escape death only to be hunted down by an invisible grim reaper in more imaginative and stomach-churning ways for five movies in total, started off pretty welll but by the end were just basically splatter flicks in the same ballpark as Saw.
And now the Grim Reaper is coming for the old franchise and leaving a new one behind as New Line has hired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to ‘re-imagine’ Final Destination.
The writers were responsible for four of the Saw movies and Piranha 3D and will be in the spotlight over the upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and The Reckoning.
We’re not sure how or why a franchise that really has no connective tissue beyond the central premise would need rebooted, but we’ll all know soon enough.
What say you all? Let us know if it’s flogging a dead horse at this stage…
