News for those of you who are fans of Leigh Whannell’s 2018 sci-fi movie Upgrade.
Blumhouse Television and UCP are adapting it, not for a sequel, but a TV series.
Whannell himself has created the series and it will be showrun by Treadstone’s Tim Walsh and “picks up a few years after the events of the film and broadens the universe with an evolved version of STEM and a new host – imagining a world in which the government repurposes STEM to help curb criminal activity.”
It seems a writer’s room is working on the show and is currently writing season one with The Purge TV series’ showrunners Krystal Ziv Houghton and James Roland now on the team too.
In the film, starring Logan Marshall-Green, Betty Gabriel, after his wife is killed during a brutal mugging that also leaves him paralyzed, Grey Trace (Marshall-Green) is approached by a billionaire inventor with an experimental cure in the form of a computer chip implant called STEM. The implant provides its host with heightened physical abilities, allowing Grey to exact revenge on those responsible for his wife’s death.
I’ll not lie to you, I have yet to see Upgrade but it’s been on my radar for what seems like forever and I have it on trusted authority that it is rather awesome, so I will be well up to speed before this hits out screens.
Any fans on here? Let me know what you think of the news in all the usual ways, guys…
