It seems that Guillermo Del Toro’s first US movie, Mimic, is getting a reboot on the small screen.
Resident Evil and Event Horizon’s Paul WS Anderson is adapting the movie into a series written by Orange in the New Black’s Jim Danger Gray who will also showrun the series. Anderson will reportedly also direct the pilot episode.
As with the movie, the series will be inspired by Donald A. Wollheim’s short story about genetically enhanced insects who can ‘mimic’ people, making it easier to prey on them.
It will follow a team working to stop the bugs from taking over the world!
Miramax’s new Head of Worldwide Television said of the project: “Paul is one of the leading filmmakers of his generation in the world of science fiction, and we are excited to bring a bold new take on this classic title to life in television that will make your skin crawl, scare the hell out of you and speak loudly to these strange times we all find ourselves in. I couldn’t think of a better writer to bring this world to life than Jim Danger Gray, whose work I’ve admired for a long time.”
I’m a massive fan of Del Toro but Mimic is the one movie of his that I just cannot get into. Maybe it was studio interference or maybe it was because it was his first US movie, but in comparison to movies Like Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone or even Crimson Peak, the movie just lacks Del Toro’s visual and creative flair.
Anyway, what say you all? Will this be one to get you excited? Let me know your thoughts, folks…
