Justin Lin gives hope for Hopes and Shaw returning for Fast 10

While Fast 9 saw a lot of returning faces, there was a couple that were noticeable by their absence.

In a new interview, returning director Justin Lin was asked if we might see Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw back in the series and the news is.. very possibly.

So, we all know that Johnson and franchise star Vin Diesel don’t see eye-to-eye and that’s likely why Hobbs didn’t appear in Fast 9 but it’s not impossible he will be back along with his new spinoff companion, Statham.

While Hobbs and Shaw exists in the same world, it is very much a standalone adventure… but that doesn’t rule out the worlds crossing over again.

“I think that’s always been our approach,” says Lin.

“So many of the conversations I have is about characters that are not even in there, but are still, obviously, they are living and breathing in this universe. On this one, when I came back, I was thinking a lot about Hobbs and Shaw, and all of the other characters. I never think of them as being gone, for sure.”

Now, without going into spoiler territory, Fast 9 has a mid-credit scene that seems to hint at this happening in the next movie – there’s two more planned in the main franchise – and we can’t wait to see it because, since Johnson joined the saga in the fifth movie, he’s been an important part of the formula. Statham too has elevated the franchise over the course of the last three movies.

I think the plan for the franchise, with an actual end planned, is to pull the whole universe together – a kinda Avengers deal –  one last time.

What say you all? Would you like to see Hobbs and Shaw return to the Fast Saga? Of course you would…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
