Kevin Smith returns to his roots as Clerks III begins filming

July 20th, 2021 by Marc Comments

We’ve known for some time that writer/director/star Kevin Smith was working on a third chapter in his Clerks saga (here), and now it’s finally gone into production.

Taking to social media, as he does more than most, below, Smith wrote: “To be great is to go on. To go on is to go far. To go far is to return.”  And, with that, Clerk III was officially announced.

The ‘to go far is to return’ is a nod to the plot of the movie which will see Smith’s first creations, Dante and Randal, stars Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson, making their own movie:

In Clerks III, following a massive heart attack, Randal enlists Dante, Elias, Jay and Silent Bob to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all.

“Thanks to Lionsgate, we get to return to where it all started with almost the whole cast that started it all! And for the first time since the first time we ever made a movie in 1993, we’re shooting the entire flick on location in New Jersey, as an ode to both the enduring allure of cinema and the resourcefulness and lunacy of its storytellers,” Smith said.

“Years ago, Dante and Randal made me a filmmaker – so now it’s time I return the favor.”

The movie will see Clerks and Clerks II stars Jay Mewes (Jay), Kevin Smith (Silent Bob),  Rosario Dawson (Becky) and Trevor Fehrman (Elias) return.

Clerks and Clerks II are still standouts in Smith’s collection – though they’re no Chasing Amy – but as of late, the director has lost his way and, as someone who discovered Smith while I was at university and have loved his View Askeiwniverse for many years, I hope we get THAT version of Smith and not the one who made the godawful Jay and Silent Bob Reboot .

Anyway, will you be watching Clerks III? Are you a fan of Smith’s or have you fallen away? I want to hear how you guys all feel about this news.

Snoogans.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
