When the Marvel shows at Netflix were canceled, there was a lot of reasons to be sad about it, with Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher being one of the biggest but now, six years after he disappeared, Castle is coming back next in April in Daredevil: Born Again but that’s just the start.
Bernthal’s return along with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is something that fans have been very excited about and it seems that Punisher is getting his own chance to step into the spotlight as Marvel/Disney are developing a Punisher Special presentation.

The Special Presentations were a short-lived concept on Disney+ that gave us mini-movies that were holiday-themed, so we got a Christmas Guardians of the Galaxy and a Halloween Werewolf by Night and both were well worth a look and amonst the best Marvel had produced on the streamer but Werewolf by Night was in 2022 and there’s been nothing else since.
It looks like Frank Castle is about to change that.
Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum, while not revealing much, has said “[Bernthal] is working on a special presentation with us about that character.”
He adds: “Bernthal is a generational actor, he’s incredible what he brings to all the roles he plays, but particularly Frank Castle. And he’s a great writer. He knows the character inside and out…. Also, I love Punisher, but I love Jon’s Punisher in particular. The idea that he’s in the MCU and can bring that to the greater universe, especially the more grounded street-level stuff, is a huge opportunity and, as a fan, the greatest thing ever.”
On the return of the other Netflix characters, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones, Winderbaum recently said “It’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox…I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”
When the story will take place or indeed what it will be is still unclear at this stage but I’d imagine it will take place after Daredevil: Born Again and may well be a platform leading into a new Punisher series.
