Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are returning to the screen as witchy sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in a sequel to 1998’s Practical Magic.
The original movie saw the sisters try to break an ancient family curse that saw any men who fell in love with either of the sisters meet an untimely end; it’s what my daughter would undoubtedly call whimsical.
The sequel was announced out of the blue by Warner Brothers when they dropped a teaser on their socials, below.
I had no idea the first movie, which I haven’t seen, despite being very much in love with Bullock in the 90s, had such a big following that a sequel was wanted, but here we are.
I must rent the first one…
The synopsis of the first movie reads:
Enchanting international superstars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman sparkle in this wry, romantic tale of two sisters who discover the gift of Practical Magic. In a small, contemporary New England town, for two sisters from a family of witches, falling in love is the trickiest spell of all. They struggle to use their gift for magically guiding fate to overcome their family curse: The men they fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death!
The spell is cast. The date is set. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return. Only In Theaters September 18, 2026.
