Confirmed: Skybound and Hasbro developing Energon Universe animated series

October 22nd, 2025 by Marc Comments

I reported back in June this year, below, that Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment was developing an animated series based on the wildly popular (and really, really good) Energon Universe comic books.

The ongoing series of comics features new creation Void Rivals and that book acted as a gateway to a bigger story featuring the Transformers and GI Joe and will likely soon feature MASK too and sees the Transformers crashing to earth and the GI Joe team and Cobra all getting involved in their ongoing galactic war. It’s really rather brilliant.

Kirkman and Skybound developing Energon Universe animated series?

And now we have confirmation that Skybound and Hasbro Entertainment are producing Energon Universe, which will be an animated series based on the comics and will be more adult-oriented than previous Transformers and GI Joe shows, leaning more towards the Invincible audience, which is also a creation of Kirkman.

The show is ‘to be taken out to buyers shortly’ as per Deadline.

The new series will be written by Lucifer’s Joe Henderson who also has a long career penning comic books, so he’s no stranger to either medium.

I’m a massive fan of the Energo Universe which started reading more out of curiousity than anything else but I was very quickly hooked on the story which, as I said introduced the superb Void Rivals comic series in the world of Transformers and GI Joe which, here, are both familiar but also very new and just adult enough to appeal to people like myself who were fans of the original shows and books back int he 80s and now want something just a touch more intense but also conformtable and familair enough that we still love it.

I can’t wait to see this show!
