Almost 20 years to the day, we’re getting a second big screen outing for The Simpsons

Well, the Simpsons are heading back to the big screen… and it’s been prophesied. By The Simpsons. Sort of.

The first Simpsons movie hit screens on July 27th, 2007 and it’s just been revealed that the sequel will hit screens on  July 23rd, 2007, just four days shy of twenty years, meaning the image below from an episode of The Simpsons that aired after the original movie is accurate… just about!

Bart promised it wouldn’t be another 20 years, and it looks like he was right… just by the skin of his teeth, though.

At this stage, nothing is known about the movie; we just have a release date and a teaser poster, which you can see below.

Twenty years on, I don’t believe The Simpsons is anywhere near the cultural icon it once was but the series is still going strong, so there must still be an audience.

Will this be the end of the road for Homer, Marge and the kids? Yeah, I don’t think so either.

The poster for the second movie can be seen below beside the poster for the first movie… clever:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
