Mad Max: The Wastelands moving ahead on the small screen?

After the disappointing performance of Furiosa, it looked like any further adventures of Mad Max, or even in his world, were dead in the water, but it seems that creator George Miller’s unmade Max script, Mad Max: The Wasteland, may yet see the light of day, albeit in a different way and on a smaller screen.

In 2017, Miller was prepping The Wasteland and Tom Hardy was onboard to return as Max, returning after Fury Road, but a pay dispute between Miller and Warner Bros meant the movie, which Miller was developing as a TV series originally for over 40 years, meant that the movie never happened.

And then, after Furiosa’s performance, it looked like it never would. For the record, Furiosa is a very solid entry in the Mad Max story.

But, just like in the Wasteland itself, it seems that, if you look hard enough, there is hope.

Now, according to Mad Max Bible Podcast, Warners have brought in Nitram writer Shaun Grant to develop Miller’s story as a TV series – given that it’s WB, it’s likely to be for HBO.

Has Furiosa’s warm reception from the fans and solid performance on the home market played a part? Hard to say, but whatever happens, it’ll be a welcome return for Max Rockatansky and his seriously twisted world.

Of course, should it happen, we’ll have to see if Miller, now in his 80s, will be returning to direct; if not, I would like to think he has a hand in choosing who does step into the director’s chair.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ‘em all.

Is there movement on the next Mad Max movie after all?
