Chandler Riggs releases his Resident Evil 7 short film, says he’s up for making more

Having released his Resident Evil 7 fan film, Biohazard – you can watch it at the bottom of this page, but beware: it’s NSFW – Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs is hoping that Constantin Film will see it and show interest in developing it further.

In the film, Riggs plays Ethan Winters, a character many Resident Evil fans will recognise right away. The main focus of Resident Evil 7, Winters is killed early in the game but the ‘mold’ rebuilds him and allows him to become almost unkillable and leaves him fighting to save his wife, Mia. This is all strongly inferred in the short film.

“I’d really love to [expand the film],” says Riggs, “but the amount of time, resources, and energy it took for this, with so much money out of my own pocket and not being able to make any money back on it, makes it tough to justify doing it again.

“That being said, if Constantin ever wanted to expand this in any way in an official capacity, of course I’m down.”

The young actor, famous for playing Carl in The Walking Dead, also believes that, to do the full story of Ethan justice, it would need to be bigger than a movie: “I do feel though that the way to do RE7 and RE8 right would be a two-season series, something like six-ish episodes each. It wouldn’t need an insane Marvel-level budget to do it right, but RE7 would be really tough to do in a 90-minute film, if you’re doing it how I did my short.”

While Zach Creggar’s Resident Evil is doing big business in the cinema and it’s finally the film the franchise deserves, the Resident Evil series has more than enough scope and world-building to allow for movies and TV shows to exist side-by-side, so while it would need some refining, a RE7 series is definitely intriguing, and Riggs is showing here that it’s something fans certainly would want to see.
