With Sinestro suddenly joining the fight, surely all will end well, right?
Johns continues to make this event engaging and interesting, even while keeping a lot of focus on the characterization. It takes a special writer to do that, as opposed to move the story along with attention on movement or location, if that makes sense. I really enjoyed, in a weird masochistic way, how he made me feel really terrible for Power Ring, and then ruthlessly murdered him via amputation and flame. Those are the best kind of storytellers, in my mind. And let’s not talk about how Bruce was the perfect amount of jerk-wad. I was almost rooting for Luthor or Sinestro to put Bats in his place.
Nightwing was but a mention in this one and it was by Luthor no less. I still just have a really hard time imagining absolutely NO ONE putting together the pieces of the fact he’s Bruce Wayne’s ward and a vigilante, so Bruce himself could potentially have more than just Batman Inc. ties to the Dark Knight.
I’m also having a wonderful time looking at Finch’s work. His detail on Power Ring’s shady arm is gruesomely gorgeous. That last double spread, too, was really beautiful, though I can’t help but think of a few Doctor Who seasons’ past with the whole ‘giant crack in the sky’ thing.
Not long now until the end for this event and I can’t quite see how any of the teams are going to deal with it.
