How does Freddie Prinze Jr feel about Star Wars? Basically it’s a part of him:
“For people who are around our age and a bit older, Star Wars is in our DNA. I’ve heard ‘May the Force be with you’ about as many times as ‘Hey, how you doing?’ “
Prinze will be voicing the character of Kanan, a gunslinger full of swagger and the Force who’s one of the new main characters in the upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Prinze sums him up:
“Kanan is pretty much the coolest guy in the universe.”
Dave Filoni is calling the “cowboy Jedi.” With his hair pulled back into a pony tail and dark green armor covering his arms and shoulders, Kanan, a Jedi who was forced underground by Order 66, is sarcastic, quick-witted, and cocky. (Sounds a bit like a certain ex-smuggler huh?)
Kanan even keeps his lightsaber locked up and uses a blaster instead. All in order to avoid the attention of the Empire, especially the new series villain the Inquisitor and his Stormtroopers. Prinze reveals:
“He’s been forced to shove a massive part of his life under the bed, so to speak. Is he living a lie? At a certain point, the lie kind of becomes the reality. And to suddenly be forced back into your Jedi ways, it’d be a bit of a challenge for him. And pretty awesome, too, when you can see what a Jedi can actually do.”
So eventually Kanan is brought back to The Force and along with his crew on the spaceship The Ghost, fights back against The Empire.

The upcoming series is set between the events of Episode III and IV, an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” It is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.
