The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (November 21)

Katniss Everdeen is back! Taking after the Harry Potter films, the conclusion to the book trilogy is split into two films in order to do it true justice. Director Francis Lawrence told reporters that he saw the final book as two distinct stories and felt that they needed to be broken apart in order to give the full story the attention it deserves. The first part will focus more on the psychological effect the Hunger Games has on Katniss, as well as how it leads to her leading the uprising against the government. Only the first glimpses of the war will be revealed. We can all guess what Part 2 will be like.

Exodus: Gods and Kings (December 12)

Taking to the current trend of turning biblical stories into action-packed films, Exodus: Gods and Kings brings to life the story of Moses. Christian Bale stars as Moses, battling it out against his adoptive brother Rhamses in order to lead the Israelite slaves out of Egypt. Director Ridley Scott has promised fans that this film will be more epic than anything he has done before.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (December 17)

Bilbo Bagins makes the final journey there and back again in this epic conclusion to The Hobbit franchise. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies trailer is available online, and the story focuses on Thorin Oakenshield’s attempt to hold on to the treasure in his reclaimed home, while Bilbo struggles to save all of his friends. The five armies of dwarves, elves, men, orcs, and the dragon Smaug fight at the entrance to the Lonely Mountain. True to his artistic vision, director Peter Jackson has promised to bring this dramatic high fantasy to an epic conclusion.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (December 19)

The third and potentially final film in the saga promises to bring all new adventure to viewers everywhere. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb brings our old friend Larry Daley to London in an attempt to save magic before it is forever lost. Along with him, our favorite cast of companions joins in the adventure. As one of the final films for comedic legend Robin Williams, it is a fun-for-everyone must-see for this holiday season.

Into the Woods (December 25)

The Broadway musical is brought to the big screen, by Disney, with big names like Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, and Chris Pine. Into the Woods takes Grimm’s Fairy Tales and brings them together in an interconnected world. A witch places a curse on a baker and his wife, and the two seek help to find ways to lift the curse with the help of notable fairy tale characters such as Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Prince Charming, and Rapunzel. This film may not be suitable for little ones, with innuendos and some scary images, but it is sure to be fun for families with tweens.
