Dick Van Dyke recently confirmed he would be returning to the world of Mary Poppins but now we know it won’t be as the lovable Cockney Bert.
According to Comicbook.com, the 91-year-old actor will play the son of Mr Dawes, the son of the character he also played in the original film under the pseudonym Navckid Keyd.
The story goes that when Van Dyke read the Mary Poppins script and listened to the ‘Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’ song, he knew right away that he wanted to also portray the villainous old bank president Mr. Dawes.
He asked Walt Disney if he could screen-test for it, which involved a two-hour makeup process, and even offered to do the role for free (he got paid for the part and donated the money to Cal Arts).
Mary Poppins Returns is scheduled for release 25 December 2018.
