It looks like Disney’s Maleficent sequel, Mistress of Evil, has been given a much earlier release date and is aiming for the Halloween slot.
The movie stars Angelina Jolie again as the title character in a sequel to the only live-action Disney remake I actually liked as it had the guts to at least try to tell a new story rather than just put the cartoons into live-action.
Originally it was set for a May 29th 2020 release but now it’s set for October 18th 2019.
Directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), the Maleficent sequel — which centers on Disney’s famed evil fairy first seen in the classic Sleeping Beauty — boasts a script by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and Noah Harpster and sees cast members from the 2014 movie, Elle Fanning (Aurora) and Sam Riley (Diaval), return alongside Jolie.
The sequel also adds Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith and Harris Dickinson will play Prince Phillip. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, and Robert Lindsay are also joining the cast.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will hit theaters Oct. 18, 2019
