Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman said the planned sequel will be unlike any sequel filmgoers will have seen before.
Talking to Digital Spy, the man who helmed The Bourne Identity said ‘Live Die Repeat and Repeat’ described the film as a “sequel that’s a prequel“.
“We have a script I love,” Liman said. “I’m kind of a contrarian, which is kind of why I liked casting Tom Cruise in a role which seems so un-Tom Cruise, and I’m really excited about the sequel because it’s not at all what you’d expect in a sequel.
“If I’m going to do a sequel for the first time in my life I want to make it the opposite of what you’d expect from a sequel and we found a story that does that. That’s why I’m even more excited that it’s a sequel because it just takes all the baggage that you’d associate with a sequel and turned it on its head.”
No word on a release date as yet but both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt will return.
