Careful, this is the moment where the supposedly dead franchise comes back for one last scare…
You didn’t really think Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, were done hunting down ghouls and ghosts did you? Just because the most recent outing is called Last Rites doesn’t mean anything; just look at Indiana Jones for more on this topic. The massive box office helped too, of course.
Now, seriously though, while Wilson and Farmiga have reportedly played the (loosely, very loosely, based on) real-life couple of paranormal investigators, the world of The Conjuring, which also includes The Nun, Annabelle and La Llorona (yes, it is) series, is set to expand with a Warrens prequel movie and a TV series.
Short film director Rodrigue Huart is in talks to direct, with Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who co-wrote the last three Conjuring movies and The Nun II, are set to write this new entry which is expected to introduce a new, younger Ed and Lorraine and will explore their first case(s), meaning there’s a whole new franchise opportunity lying ahead.
But that’s not all…
If you like your horror on a smaller screen, then the Conjuring universe is there for you too! HBO is currently developing a Conjuring Universe TV series with Jessica Jones and Supernatural’s Nancy Won as writer, executive producer and showrunner, along with Agatha All Along and WandaVision’s Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires also writing.

As of now, there’s no word on what the TV series is about, but if I were a betting man, I’d say it won’t feature the Warrens or anything we’ve already seen in the Conjuring Universe.
A monster of the week type show could be fun with each episode featuring hauntings and events from all over the world. But that’s just my twopence.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
