Get ready for more zombie goodness as plans are afoot to bring us Zombieland 3 in the not-too-distant future.
In a fun interview with Deadline, the director of Zombieland and Zombieland 2: Double Tap, Ruben Fleischer talks about his career and has loads of fun talking about making the Zombieland movies but near the end of the chat, he reveals that with the first movie turning 20 (!!!) in 2029, they have plans to get a third on on the slate for its anniversary.
“I’m hoping that we’ll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029. We’re starting to talk about that because [the first] one was 2009, and then we did the second one in 2019, and we kind of left that one all saying, “We’ll see you in 10 years”,” he says.
“That’s coming up now, and so we’re starting to figure that out, so I’m hoping that’ll come together. Then, I’ve got a few things that are ready to go, so we’ll see which one comes first.”
The first Zombieland is a classic, sitting up there with the likes of Shaun of the Dead; however, the second one? Well, not so much, that all said, on the day Fleischer announces the return of Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) and his cohorts Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are back for a trilogy closer, I will be just as excited as anyone else, I can assure you.
As for the other projects he has planned? “There’s this Western vampire movie that I’m really excited about, that’s like a classic Western with a vampire at the center of it. Like Unforgiven, if Clint Eastwood was a vampire. I’m really hoping to make that. I feel like the two genres that I dreamed of making were a gangster movie and then a Western. So I’m hoping that I’ll get the chance to make a Western.”
While it’s not a match that hasn’t at least been touched on in the past, it certainly sounds like a lot of fun.
So vampire cowboys and more zombies… thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
