A new project tied to Ghostbusters director and producer Jason Reitman, above left, is moving forward, as Sony Pictures has acquired 71 Minutes, a spec script from writer Ian Shorr, writes Jason over at Ghostbusters News.
Reitman is attached to produce the film under the Ghost Corps banner alongside Erica Mills, though he is not currently set to direct.
While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, 71 Minutes is described as a real-time supernatural thriller centered on a man attempting to evade pursuers in a race against time, with just over an hour remaining before sunrise. The script, written on spec by Shorr, quickly became one of the more sought-after properties on the market, reportedly drawing interest from more than 20 production companies and multiple studios before ultimately landing at Sony.

Shorr is best known for his work in the sci-fi genre, including the Antoine Fuqua-directed Infinite. He is also currently involved in another high-profile project now in production at Warner Bros., starring Keanu Reeves and directed by Tim Miller.
As for Reitman’s return to Ghostbusters, both he and fellow filmmaker and collaborator, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan, will serve as producers on the franchise’s upcoming animated projects for Netflix. These include a series, rumored to be set in the 1990s, and a feature film potentially told from the perspective of a ghost.
