Hudson talks Ghostbusters animated series, teases ‘something else’ also coming

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any news on the upcoming Ghostbusters animated series in development from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, but in new news, Ernie Hudson made note of the anticipated project in a new interview, writes GB News’ Jason.

While speaking with Stage Left Unsaid, below, to promote his role on BET’s The Family Business, Hudson was asked about what’s currently happening within the Ghostbusters franchise, responding:

“Well, you know, I never know. I find out a lot of what I know from the fans more than from the studio. I know they’re talking about something else, but we’re also in the middle of doing an animated series, and you know, I’m Winston Zeddemore, and I own the Ghostbusters franchise. So there’ll be more, and I’m excited about it.

While Hudson’s comments may not seem earth-shattering, given that the Netflix series has yet to reveal any casting details, they do seem to suggest his involvement. That said, it’s important to note that this has not been officially confirmed by either Netflix or Sony Pictures Animation.

It’s also interesting that he refers to ‘something else’, giving hope that Frozen Empire’s disappointing box office will not mean the end of our favourite franchise on the big screen as well as on the small one.

Of course, Hudson has previously made it clear that if Winston Zeddemore were to return in animated form, he’d want to be the one behind the mic, as he said in a previous interview with Coming Soon:

Four new Ghostbusters movies – live-action & animated – planned?

“I told Jason (Reitman), ‘Don’t ever let anybody do Winston’s voice unless I’m gone. Like, gone for real… I love doing voice-over work and I’d be very heartbroken if anyone voiced Winston from this point moving forward.”

As longtime fans know, Hudson did not voice Winston in The Real Ghostbusters, despite auditioning for the role. Instead, the part was given to Arsenio Hall, who voiced the character throughout the show’s early seasons before being replaced by Buster Jones later in the series’ run.

Hudson has spoken out several times about being disappointed that he didn’t voice Winston in the series, so it’s good to know that, should Winston return in animated form, he will be voiced by Hudson. As it should always be.
