While his focus now is set on the third movie in the Avatar series, Avatar: Fire & Ice, in a new interview, James Cameron talked about another of his franchises, Aita: Battle Angel and how, despite many fearing it’s dead, it’s still very much alive and there may be more on the horizon that was anticipated back in the day.
While he’s still working on the Avatar series, Cameron is also developing The Devils and Last Train From Hiroshima but he’s also firmly focused on more Alita, along with the director of the 2019 movie, Robert Rodriguez.

Word is that the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday will be attached to
Avatar: Fire & Ice next month.
“I appreciate the loyalty of the Alita fans,” Cameron says, referring to the constant faith and hope the fans – myself included – of the original movie have held onto, even these six years later, that Alita’s (played by Rosa Salazar) journey didn’t end in that arena as she prepared to enter that race, but that a sequel would continue her journey.
“Robert Rodriguez and I have sworn a blood oath to do at least one more Alita movie,” Cameron says, “In fact, we’re thinking of an architecture that bridges to a third film, but we’ll be satisfied if we can make one more. And we’re making progress on that.”
Wait… a trilogy?
While the 2019 movie was fun and had a great cast – Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connolly, Mahershala Ali – and was a lot of fun, it struck a cord with fans who have been hoping to see the character return and continue her journey to the aerial city of Zalem and it seems that Cameron is still really keen to make it happen: “Now that I have a home in Austin, Texas, about three miles from [Robert’s] place, I think we’ll probably get more serious about that as soon as I wrap the mix here in a few weeks,” he says.
The world of Alita deserves to be explored more and the story is one that needs a proper ending and fair play to Cameron; he’s definitely keeping that dream alive for the fans.
More Alita? I know you have thoughts and I wanna hear ’em all!
