Marvel reveal line-up for Avengers: Doomsday… or is it Avengers Vs X-Men?

Well, it was a big for Marvel who managed to encapsulate many fans for over five-hours with a massive reveal of (some) of the big names set to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

With the Russo brothers, who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, returning to the Marvel/MCU fold (no-one mention Electric State!), it was always expected that it would be a big turnout but two things were noticeable in the reveal and that was just how many of Fox’s X-Men franchise were coming over and just how many of the main MCU stars were absent (I’ll get to that at the end).

Firstly, of the main MCU roster confirmed we have Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Danny Ramirez (The Falcon), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost) and Lewis Pullman (who will appear in Thunderbolts* next month).

Surprisingly, from the X-Men trilogy, we have Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cuming (Nightcrawler) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) also coming over, even though he only appeared in Deadpool and Wolverine, is Channing Tatum as Gambit.

Several of these actors have already appeared in the MCU including the aforementioned Tatum along with Stewart in Multiverse of Madness and Grammar in The Marvels… it’s all connected, after all.

The Fantastic Four cast will be appearing too with Pedro Pascal (Mr Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (The Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) and Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch).

Finally, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who played Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will also be appearing.

Now, a lot of fans were surprised that among others, Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Brie Larson (Carol Danvers), Iman Vellani (Ms Marvel),
Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau) or Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr Strange) didn’t appear but it seems that this was only the first announcement.

After the announcement, Robert Downey Jnr, who finished up the line-up – he is coming to the MCU as Dr Doom (all things lead to Doom, geddit?) – took to social media, writing “that must be it… right?”

Marvel’s official account replied: “There’s always room for more…”

So, if your favourite hero, villain or Eternal isn’t on the list, don’t panic, there could still be an announcement forthcoming.

Avengers: Doomsday releases May 1st, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars arrives May 7th, 2027.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
