Marvel star Sebastian Stan heads to Gotham City in The Batman Part II

Another major name from the MCU has jumped over the comic book void and is heading to Gotham City.

Yes, it seems that The Winter Soldier himself, Sebastian Stan, will be joining Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II.

Stan has made no secret of his love for Batman movies in the past, as he was growng up, and has spoken about how Tim Burton’s Batman Returns is hs favourite: “I really loved Batman Returns with Michelle Pfeiffer. I just really love the tone of the movie, the music, it felt like an experience and Batman. I mean, it was one of the first times we saw him on screen through Michael Keaton as a person, a real person. It’s a character movie actually, in a lot of ways, it’s a movie I watched a lot when I was growing up.”

Robert Pattinson’s Batman was considered to appear in The Sandman season 2

Well, now he’s going to Gotham himself and while there’s been no confirmation, word is, he’s playing Harvey Dent, Batman’s ally and confidante who eventually becomes the villain, Two-Face.

We know in the past, Reeves has said that the villain in The Batman sequel has never been done on screen before, so I don’t believe, if Stan is playing Dent, he will become Two-Face, I think we’ll see him as the good guy here… but I am wondering if, as a fan of The Long Halloween comic, might we see his wife, Glenda, stepping up to be a villain of sorts and might that be who Johansson is playing?

It’s all speculation, but I like that idea.

Tidbit:

In 2021, The Batman/The Batman Part 2 writer Mattson Tomlin was asked if there was an actor he’d love to write for. He replied: “Too many to list, but this guy’s a good friend and I am constantly writing with him in mind.”

The video was of Sebastian Stan:

I have to wonder, if Stan is heading to DC, is his time at Marvel up? Recently at Tokyo Comic-Con, the actor hinted at deaths in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday… could he be among them? “I don’t know if I can say very much about that,” he said, adding: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. We’ll see who makes it or who doesn’t. I think the most exciting thing is Robert Downey Jr., one of the greatest, coming back. He’s definitely going to have something in store for everybody.”

In related news, the trades are reporting that Ireland’s own Barry Keoghan will also return for the sequel, meaning Reeves is bringing back The Joker and it has me wondering if, like in the first movie, he will be whispering in the ear of Riddler or if he will have a bigger role to play this time out.

The Batman Part II will star Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!

Batman: Part I is set for October 1st, 2027.
