Marvel’s Blade movie ‘dead’ as character now set for Midnight Sons instead

Sigh.

Ok, look, I love Blade, I love Wesley Snipes as Blade, and I love the Blade movies; heck, everyone loves the first two Blade movies, but one thing Blade doesn’t need to be is complicated.

But apparently no one at Marvel got that notice because it seems now the long-gestating (ie rewritten and retooled) Blade movie set to star Mahershala Ali in the titular role, a movie that was first announced in 2019 (here), is dead and Blade, the character, will instead make his big debut in a Midnight Sons movie.

Wut?

#SDCC2019 Marvel just confirmed Mahershala Ali is the MCU’s new Blade!

Ok, so Ali has technically already debuted as Blade when his voice is heard at the end of 2021’s The Eternals, but there hasn’t been sight nor sound of him since and word is that Ali is now looking to move on from the role, to concentrate on other things.

On the latest episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, scooper Jeff Sneider reportes that the Blade standlone movie is “dead” and “He [Blade] will not be introduced in a solo movie,” Sneider says, “he’ll be introduced in Midnight Sons.”

Now, don’t get me wrong, the (also) long-rumoured Midnight sons movie could be great, a team-up of Marvel’s supernatural heroes, including Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Elsa Bloodstone and Blade, has a lot of potential and would be one to be excited for.

But Blade is the daddy. He deserves his own movie and once again, I am asking Marvel, just bring back Snipes.

After all, Snipes himself called it in Deadpool and Wolverine:

So, after cast changes, six writers, three directors and nearly seven years in production hell, the writing might have been on the wall when the period costumes for Blade ended up being used by Ryan Coogler in Sinners.

Blade deserves better, Marvel, he really does.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.

Marvel’s Blade movie is stalled indefinitely… can we just bring back Wesley Snipes? Please?!
