We learned early last month that Adam Sandler was planning on bringing back one of his most beloved characters, Happy Gilmore, but at that time, we didn’t know if it would definitely happen or where/when, but now we have some exciting news about the sequel.
Netflix have confirmed that they have greenlit the movie with Sandler and… that’s all we know.
The exact plot of the movie is unknown with rumours circulating that it will be based around his son or daughter playing golf but as of now, it’s all speculation. What we know for sure is that Sandler has finished the script and Netlfix are officially developing it.
And that has us excited already!
Co-star in the first movie Christopher McDonald, who played the villainous but brilliant Shooter McGavin in a recent interview on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan, said: “I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How ’bout that,’ [and] he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.'”
and now his word has come true.
Topping Happy Gilmore almost 30 years later – the original came out in 1995 – is going to be a tough job because, not counting his more series roles like Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, it’s the best movie Sandler put out in his comedy collection (come at me!).
We’re excited for more Happy in this office… are you?
Let me know!
