With Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars movie, Starfighter, officially announced at Star Wars Celebration back in April, I reckon it’s long past time we got some news about it, don’t you?

Well, we have some… not a lot, but interesting stuff nonetheless.

At Celebration, taking to the main stage, Gosling said: “This script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters.

“It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

So, what is that story, and who are those characters?

Well, Gosling’s character is protecting his young nephew from a villain, likely played by Maxxxine’s Mia Goth. What the villain wants, we don’t know. If it’ll involve the Force or Jedi? Unlikely, but not impossible.

The movie will take place some five years after Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, and it’s possible we will see some familiar faces from the sequel trilogy and maybe the original trilogy too.

So, there you have it. I’m getting some Skeleton Crew vibes from this plot, which isn’t a bad thing at all, as I liked Skeleton Crew, but did general audiences?

I’m looking forward to seeing this movie, I’m looking forward, as I always do, to more Star Wars, I just hope Levy and Gosling are big enough draws to get bums on seats.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em.

Star Wars: Starfighter releases on May 28th, 2027.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
