With Jorma Tommila’s Aatami Korpi currently killing Russians led by Igor Draganov (Stephen Lang) by the truckful in Sisu: Road to Revenge, currently on home release, there was just one thing going through my mind as I watched it.. will there be more and what’s director Jalmari Helander doing next.
The sequel to the highly successful Sisu, the movie sees our hero, Aatami, trying to take back the home he and his now-dead family owned in Russia, to rebuild it, the Soviets send Draganov to kill him because, by murdering his family, Draganov essentially created Aatami’s unstoppable killing machine. Bloody chaos ensues.
Honestly, it’s that simple and so, so much fun.
But, given Aatami’s ‘happy’ ending, will we ever see him return for a third outing? Well… maybe.
WATCH: Holy heck! There’s a trailer for Sizu: Road to Revenge! And it’s awesome!
Helander is making it clear that the story has ended in a good place and there would need to be a very good story to tell to bring Aatami back. He said that when he made the sequel, he would only do it if it was as good as the first movie and while it’s not quite as good, it’s still great.
However, he’s definitely not ruling out a Sisu trilogy closer: “I like to think that this is a very beautiful ending for the story of Aatami Korpi. But at the same time, you never know. Some day I might have an idea for the third one. Let’s see.”
While he’s mulling over a third movie, Helander is tackling one of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises… Rambo.
The director is currently prepping a John Rambo, a prequel movie, to film later this month with Black Adam’s Noah Centineo in the role made famous by Sylvester Stallone.

“Of course [I’m motivated to make Stallone proud]. It’s a big deal for me to actually do a Rambo film, and there’s a lot of responsibility,” Helander says, “So I’m just trying to do the best I can with it, and I hope that’s enough.”
Full disclosure, I thought a Rambo prequel was a terrible idea… the first movie is iconic and, while the sequels range from the sublime to the ridiculous, it’s always felt like a prequel was completely unnecessary, but with Helander at the helm, I am a lot more interested in seeing just what he does and even if it doesn’t work as a prequel, I am fully sure that it’s going to be well worth a watch.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
