There’s no denying that, despite it being a pretty poor movie, Spider-man: No Way Home awoke something in the fans, something that made them realise how much they missed Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as everyone’s favourite Web-Head(s).
Ever since, there’s been talk about getting them back for various Marvel projects – I’d put money on it that we’ll see them both in Doomsday and/or Secret Wars – and now, there’s a little momentum behind at least one of them returning.
Mattson Tomlin, writer of The Batman and The Batman Part II has revealed he’s attempting to reach out to Sam Raimi about writing a script for the fourth Spider-Man movie with Maguire in the lead, which we almost had in 2011, had it not been cancelled after Spider-Man 3:
Mattson revealed that, if he got to write a new entry in the Raimi Spider-Man universe, it would take into account Peter and MJ being older and focus on them as being married and parents: “where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father.”
On the rumours, MJ herself, Kirsten Dunst, said that it wasn’t something she’d ever thought off, but said: “That would be cool, right?
“I mean, I don’t know if the fans are into it… I feel like that’s an interesting movie, right? Me and Tobey doing that again but with kids.”
Oh, Kirsten, I assure you, the fans would be into it.
UPDATE: On October 26th Mattson assured a fan on X that he was still pursuing the idea of a new Maguire Spider-Man movie and there’s not been a ‘no’ yeat, writing: “Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a “no” yet!”
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em…
