It’s always a reason to get excited when news comes out about a new project from Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon and today is such a day.
Their new movie is due in 2028, is called Kindred Spirit and tells the story of a brother and sister leaving Ireland during the Famine and heading to America to find a new life.
The studio, which brought us Book of Kells, Song of the Sea and even dipped into Star Wars with the fantastic Screecher’s Reech short in Visions Season 2, has delivered one great story and adventure after another and Kindred Spirit is already on my most anticipated movie of, well, whatever year it comes out, list.
Kindred Spirits tells the tale of two children dealt a very bad hand. Mara, an Irish refugee child alone in New York in 1847, meets Tushka, a Choctaw Nation son far from the warmth of his family.
When their paths align, the two journey across America through epic adventures and magical encounters, watched over by Mara’s brother Dan, who cannot accept his own passing into the spirit realm.
Together, they search for people to call family and a place to call home.
