WATCH: “It could happen…” Zack Snyder discusses finishing his Justice League story

Oh, boy, here we go again…

Cast your mind back to the dark days of 2021 as a pandemic swept the globe and, honestly, everything was a big shit, but one of the highlights of that time was Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Finally, the director was able to right the wrongs of Joss Whedon’s version of his movie, and insert deleted scenes, create new scenes and put the movie out as he originally intended.

And, as the years went on, that version of the DC cinematic universe came to a pretty poor end, leading to the creation of a whole new universe under the guidance of James Gunn, but Snyder’s four-hour odyssey is still out there, unfinished, the first chapter in a story of three movies, about another eight hours of film, that he still wants to tell and, I cannot lie, I would certainly be here for it.

However, with the cast all released long since by Warner Bros, the chances of a live-action sequel (or sequels) is very unlikely. But we live in an age where movies, cartoons, TV shows, comics, games and more can all make up one big story and it’s down that road that Snyder’s story may eventually end.

On the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder chats to Josh Horowitz, who asks him if he has ever seriously considered finishing his story in either a comic book series or an animated film, something Snyder says has been heavily discussed: “We’ve absolutely talked about it quite a bit. We live in a world where all that’s possible, and whatever form it would take… that would be amazing.”

Despite the rabid fandom, I honestly don’t think the Snyder Justice League sequels would pull in enough money to warrant more live-action outings, but I do fully believe that an animated movie or series of graphic novels would be the way for the fans to get the closure and resolution that they crave after these five years or so.

This isn’t the first time Snyder has hinted at such a thing, but this feels a bit more optimistic, a bit more ‘this might happen’, and the director reinforces the fact that this is something that has been discussed.

Might a continuation of the so-called Snyderverse be in our future? Hard to say but, like Snyder himself, I certainly wouldn’t rule it out.

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, determined to ensure Superman’s (Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions.

The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes.

Now united, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman (Momoa), Cyborg (Fisher) and The Flash (Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.
