Will Smith talks Hancock sequel, hints at Zendaya appearing

Whenever people talk about their favourite Will Smith movie, it’s usually Bad Boys, Men in Black or Independence Day but I, personally, might have to say Hancock.

The 2008 Peter Berg movie saw Smith playing Hancock, a drunk superhero who often made things worse when he tried to use his powers for good, that is until he meets Mary and Ray, played by Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman, who put his life on the right track and show him who exactly he really is.

It’s a fun movie that plays with the superhero tropes and I can’t help feeling if it had come out even just a couple of years later, it would be more celebrated than it is right now.

However, Smith has made no secret of the fact that he’s a fan of the movie and the character of Hancock and has, in the past, discussed a potential sequel and even a TV series at one point, that that was a decade ago and it’s been pretty quiet since then.

Until now.

Speaking with Comic Book Movie, Smith has revealed that there are plans in motion for the superhero sequel and even some interesting casting on the go: “There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea,” Smith says, “We haven’t even talked about it. I’m going to give you one little piece. Zendaya [is] being approached for a role in Hancock 2.”

It looks like things are really moving forward on the sequel now, especially if Smith is already talking about new characters/casting. Is Zendaya in danger of becoming the female version of Pedro Pascal? Yeah, it looks that way for sure. If the rumours are true and both Pascal and Zendaya appear together in A24’s upcoming The Drama, we might just see pop culture as we know it explode. Or something… I’m not entirely sure where I was going with that.

Anyway, I’m here for Hancock 2 but I really need Theron and especially Bateman to return too.

Thoughts? Were you a fan of Hancock back in the day? Would you turn up for a sequel? Let me know…

Watch Smith discuss the sequel here:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
