Yeah, it’s pretty clear Brainiac will be the villain in Superman: Man of Tomorrow

Not that it’s going to be a big surprise, but it seems that James Gunn has confirmed who the villain in 2027’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow will be… and it’ll be a big screen first.

Gunn previously shared three images of Superman and Lex fighting side-by-side when he annouced the Superman sequel, though he had not confirmed who they were teaming against.

But it seems pretty clear now.

Tidbit:

James Gunn shared these three Jim Lee illustrations/images when he first announced Man of Tomorrow. The images feature Lex in his green and purple power suit, fighting alongside Superman… I guess we know who they will be fighting.

Now, The Wrap is reporting that yes, it will be Brainiac that faces the Man of Steel and his mortal enemy, Lex Luthor, in the movie.

“Lex Luthor is mostly concerned about Lex Luthor,” Gunn previously said, “So we’ll see what threatens Lex Luthor.”

In the comics, Brainiac is a super-intelligence that ultimately had a hand in the destruction of Krypton, the creation of the Bottle City of Kandor and much, much more, so when Superman implores Lex to hopefully step up and be a hero when mankind needs it, it seems that day might now be coming.

Oh, and if there were any remaining doubt, I’d imagine the image of the front page of the Man of Tomorrow script shared by Gunn too, left, should put those to bed.

So, Superman and Lex Vs Brainiac? Count me in…

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow hits cinemas on July 9th, 2027
