Looks like DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is set to lose another founding member.
Deadline is reporting that Brandon Routh AKA Ray Palmer AKA The ATOM in the series is leaving the show.
And he won’t be leaving alone, as actress Courtney Ford who plays Nora Darhk is going too.
“Brandon and Courtney have been invaluable members of the Legends family,” series executive producers Phil Klemmer, Grianne Godfree ante series d Keto Shimizu said in a statement.
“They have always brought a level passion and collaboration to their characters and to the show — both on and off the screen – that we deeply admire and for which we are eternally grateful.”
The couple are married in real life.
“As one of the founding Legends of Tomorrow, Brandon is extremely beloved by the fans and everyone on the show,” the statement went on.
It seems that the story demanded the end of their storyline but it seems the door is still open should either or both decide to return down the line.
“I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring the big-hearted and humorous Ray Palmer to life for our fans over the last 5 years, but unfortunately, his storyline is pointed in another direction,” Routh said, “I’m saddened to see Ray’s journey end for now but wish my Legends family well.”
With Ford saying: “If it were my choice, I’d play her for years to come. But I understand that stories run their course, and I’m grateful for the time I did have bringing Nora to life on Legends of Tomorrow.”
Does this mean that Routh’s turn in this year’s crossover event as The ATOM and as Superman as played by him in Superman Returns is the actor’s final bow in the DC Universe? Maybe… or perhaps there’s a different future for him in this world.
I’m a big fan of Routh especially, so this will be a big empty hole in the series.
And to think… they keep Mona and Gary. Ugh.
