As the DCU continues to rumble on with Supergirl, Man of Tomorrow and Clayface all on their way, it looks like another big player in the DC universe is set to debut on the small screen.
We’ve known for almost exactly a year now that Creature Commandos season 2 was coming, and now it seems it will feature a host of new characters, including Captain Atom in a regular role… though what that role is, is unknown as of right now.
According to Nexuspoint News: The version that will appear in the series is Nathaniel Adam iteration of the character which debuted in Captain Atom #1 in 1987 and was created by Cary Bates and Pat Broderick… This iteration of the character is a member of the Air Force and Vietnam War veteran who, after gaining his powers, is sent decades into the future. In the present day, he serves as a hero for the US government. Captain Atom’s body is coated in a metallic substance and is given nuclear powers.
TIDBIT:
While still finding its feet, the DCU, according to Peter Safran, will eventually have an annual output of: 2 live-action films, 1 animated film, 2 live-action series and 2 animated series for HBO Max per year.
The character is no stranger to appearing on the small screen, especially in animated form, as he’s been in Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.
It will be interesting to see who voices the character because, as James Gunn has said in the past, they will try to hire the same actors to do animation, live-action, and games, so whoever voices him may well appear as the character in live action too.
