If there’s ever been comeback like Dexter Morgan, I’m not aware of it.
From the disappointing finale of the original series, to the disappointing ending of Dexter: New Blood, we all thought our favourite TV anti-hero/serial killer was really done for when prequel series Dexter: Original Sin was announced because, well, it sounded like a terrible idea.
Imagine our surprise when not only was it not terrible, it was bloody great! Then we learned that Dexter: Resurrection was coming, picking up from the end of New Blood and suddenly Dexter is very much back in demand.
Unsurprising then, that Original Sin has officially been given a second season at Paramount+ and Showtime with Clyde Phillips returning as showrunner.
While nothing else is known, the writers’ room is expected to be up and running soon, so we know that the ball is officially rolling.
If it’s as good as the first season, then count me all the way in!
WATCH: Michael C Hall shares ‘now filming’ video from set of Dexter: Resurrection
Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness.
With the guidance of his father, Harry (Golden Globe® winner Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson and special guest star, Sarah Michelle Gellar also star in this new series, with Michael C. Hall returning to voice the iconic inner monologue in Dexter Morgan’s head.
Witness the beginning as Dexter’s darkness first comes to light in DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN.
