Well, we knew something was coming for us die-hard Firefly/Serenity fans, and today we finally found out what it is and, yes, it’s a bit disappointing, but on the plus side, Serenity is flying again.
Yes, we’re getting the whole gang, except for the late Ron Glass, back for a Firefly/Serenity animated series that, according to star Nathan Fillion, has the blessing of creator (and Hollywood pariah) Joss Whedon.
Tidbit:
Here’s our first look at the artwork for the animated series, featuring (l-r) Zoe (Gina Torres), Inara (Morena Baccarin), Capt Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), Jayne (Adam Baldwin) and River Tam (Summer Glau). The art is great, let’s hope the show can live up to the legacy.

The new show was revealed at Awesome Con earlier today by Fillion, who shared some exciting details about the project.
It will be written by Marc Guggenheim, who was the man responsible for the Arrowverse, including Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, along with his wife, Tar Butters, who worked on shows such as Agent Carter and the criminally unappreciated Reaper.
Interestingly, and explaining the involvement of Alan Tudyk, whose character, Wash, died in the movie Serenity, the series will fit fully into continuity and will take place between the 2002 series, Firefly, and the 2005 movie.

The artwork (above) is by animation studio ShadowMachine and now with the concept art and the cast in place, the series will soon be looking for buyers to make it all happen.
“The dedication of Firefly fans has kept this 25-year-old show relevant. Clearly, the return of Firefly is something the fans want. More importantly, it’s something they deserve,” Fillion said.
When the news was flying around about this, I was hoping it was going to be a new TV series, although I knew it was very unlikely, so this is, without doubt, the next best think that it could have been, so all said and done, this is very much a win for the fans and, Fillion pointed out that because the cast are all jobbing actors, getting them all together would be almost impossible, so this is the best way to get everyone, as much as possible, back together again.
We will miss Glass’ Shepard Book, though.
Anyway, thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
