So… Star Trek is doing a puppet episode now? Sure, why not?
At SDCC’s Hall H, the Star Trek panel revealed a teaser for Strange New Worlds featuring Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike as a puppet.
The clip is a tease for an episode in the show’s fourth season, directed by Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock’s Jordan Canning and featuring real Jim Henson‘s Creature Shop puppets (that’s cool, not gonna lie).

With the show’s fourth season on the horizon, it’s worthwhile remembering that in June, Paramount+ renewed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for its fifth – and final – season.
At the panel, co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman said Strange New Worlds would lead right up to Captain Kirk’s first stepping onto the Bridge of the Enterprise: “So what we’ve tried to do is try to reach back to Pike’s Enterprise and instill in it the kind of storytelling values we have today and bring us right up to Kirk’s first day on the job. And that is our hope, and that is our plan. And we plan to get you there.”

Goldsman had said a while back that they wanted to do an animated episode of Strange New Worlds that fitted in with the filmation 1973 animated series based on the Original Series but sadly they couldn’t get there… methinks this episode was born in the idea for that venture.
So puppets and Kirk… what else does Star Trek need?
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
The series follows Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), Number One (Rebecca Romijn) and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise as they explore new worlds around the galaxy in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the starship.
