Having just last week attended Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre in London (it’s a fantastic show by the way, if you get a chance), I can attest that Stranger Things is not only alive and well, but there’s a lot of potential for more stories in that world, in other places and times, the possibilities are alost endless and it seems that one of the show’s stars is well aware of it.
Update on Stranger Things animated series and its Ghostbusters inspiration
In a recent interview, Ghostbusters and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard discussed an idea that Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers had in mind for the series, though he admits he’s not sure if it will still happen or not.
Describing the series as “Like David Lynch’s ‘Twin Peaks.’ Sort of an anthology and different tones but similar universe or same universe,” the young star goes on, “I think set in different places and all tied together through this mythology of the Upside Down. Don’t even talk about Hawkins. Don’t have any mention of our characters.”
Tidbit:
The Stranger Things stage show, The First Shadow (which is superb, I saw it a few days ago), has come to Broadway and released a new trailer. This would work on TV too, Netflix, if you’re listening…
“They [the Duffers] were toying around with ideas in case Netflix wanted them. I’m sure they do, and I’m sure it will happen, but there’s nothing official. I think the coolest way, the way that I would do it, there has to be labs everywhere. If there was one in Hawkins, there’s one in Russia. Where else could they be?”
Co-creator Ross Duffer has admitted that Wolfhart had not been told about the show but had guessed what they were developing without being told: “Nobody — not Netflix, not any of the producers, not any of the directors, not any of the actors — nobody else has figured out what the spinoff is.

“Finn figured it out, which is pretty remarkable. We’ve mind-melded with this kid a bit.”
While there’s no doubt we will have plenty of Stranger Things spinoffs down the line, the only one confirmed happening so far is an animated series based around 80s animated series like Transformers and The Real Ghostbusters that will still tell stories canon to the main universe but in a fun, very different way.
I’m back on the Stranger Things train with full commitment after The First Shadow, so I will be here for it all.
The fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” will premiere on Netflix in three parts: four episodes on November 26, three episodes on December 25, and the series finale on December 31.
Tidbit:
The Duffer Brothers have shared the original sizzle reel for Stranger Things – basically a fake trailer made out of existing clips and shows that gives the flavour and tone of the series.
Can you guess the clips they used?:
