Stranger Things: The First Shadow stage show being filmed for streaming on Netflix

Better late than never? It looks like Stranger Things prequel, The First Shadow, is finally getting the television treatment… but is it too late?

The play – which is amazing by the way – takes place in 1959 and tells the origins of Henry Creel AKA Vecna and how the story was originally woven into that of a young Hopper (David Harbour in the series) and Joyce (Winona Ryder).

With the fifth and final season of the main series having just aired at the end of 2025, fans who weren’t able to get to Broadway or the East End to see the series (ie the vast majority of them) were annoyed to find out that the stage show actually played a big part in the over all story, leading many to voice their annoyance at not being able to see this hidden part of the story.

Is this why this is happening? Hard to say, but either way,  The First Shadow is heading to Netflix.

BEFORE THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN…

Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.

Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, who take theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the end.

This is something you do not want to miss…

It has now been revealed that, while a release date is not announced yet, the Broadway show has been canceled between Tuesday, February 10th and Saturday, February 14th, for filming.

This is pretty cool as it means the show’s cast of Louis McCartney (Silent Roar), T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy), Gabrielle Nevaeh (That Girl Lay Lay), and Alex Breaux will now be a part of the show’s lore on Netflix as well as on stage.

I’m wondering if this will affect ticket sales once it airs… anyway…

With plans still ongoing for more Stranger Things spinoffs and the animated series coming later this year, I still feel filming and airing The First Shadow would have made more sense before season five aired but no matter, this just means that there’s going to be even more content from the Upside Down in the streamer’s future,

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
