Finally! We have our first trailer for the highly anticipated Maul: Shadow Lord series, which will see Darth Maul try to rebuild his life after the fall of the Republic, leading into where we found him in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Executive Producer Matt Michnovetz says of the series: “We wanted to create an action-packed thrill ride, something that had the rush of a roller coaster, so we do a lot of homages to the classic serials of the day, which gave George Lucas the inspiration for Star Wars. And we’ve got the perfect character to drive us through this in Maul.”
The show finds Maul trying to adjust to a galaxy run by his former master’s Empire and laying low on the planet of Janix: “It’s one part Gotham, one part Metropolis and a hundred percent Star Wars with all these different levels and layers,” says Michnovetz. “It’s a city essentially built into a crater on this planet that is untouched by the Empire. It’s got a functioning democracy and law enforcement doing a good job of policing their own community. It’s a rich environment for crime and gangsters, but so far there’s been a very peaceful accord between all of them in the interest of business.”

Just as he does later with Ezra in Star Wars: Rebels, Maul here finds a young Jedi, Devon, left, in this case a former Padawan, and tries to make her his apprentice. “Devon is a young person who’s living through challenging times and realizes that the future she once thought she was going to have is no longer possible, and so she has to adapt,” adds Michnovetz.
The new series stars Sam Witwer as Maul, Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, recent Golden Globe® winner and Oscar® nominee Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, and Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots;.
The series kicks off on April 6th with a double-bill and will drop two episodes each week until the finale on May 4th, Star Wars Day.
I will show you the galaxy for what it truly is.
The Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord two-episode premiere streams on April 6th.
