In a new interview with Wednesday director Tim Burton and star Jenna Ortega, it’s been revealed that, two weeks out from the hit show’s return for season two, Netflix has already bet on the show’s future and franchise potential.
Yes, season three is already ordered and an as-yet undisclosed spinoff is also in early development.
Speaking of Wednesday and what Ortega brings to the role, Burton says: “You can become a lot of different things as an actor. But for Wednesday, you have to have it. I don’t mean that she’s dark.
“You need this weird internal strength and clarity because you can’t manufacture it. Jenna’s like a silent movie actor, and what I enjoy about her character is not so much the [dialogue] but the way she presents herself.”
The new series will see Steve Buscemi and Billie Piper join the cast of what is Netflix’s biggest ever English-language series.
As for the spinoff showrunner Alfred Gough and Netflix’s Bela Bajaria say: “It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at… There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”
So, if you’re a fan of Wednesday, Ortega and/or Burton, then there’s a lot of good stuff still to come.
Wednesday Season two Part 1 airs on 6th August, followed by Part 2 on 3rd September.
