Hmm.
After the release of volume 1 of the indie horror anthology, creator Neil Gibson listened to reader’s feedback. There was a significant amount of input from some readers that they wanted something rather less dark and twisted. Despite this being the raison d’étre of the series, Gibson acquiesced to their wishes.
He has since stated that this was a mistake.
Honestly, I agree with him. The beauty of Twsted Dark 1 was that it was the Ronseal of graphic novels: it was dark, and there were twists in every story. Unfortunately, this time around the tone is noticeably less dark.
The first two stories are considerably more lightweight than the previous volume. Although the third goes back to the previous, darker, standards with a tale of murder and manipulation this unfortunately sets the tone for the book: dark stories are outnumbered by the lighter ones. There are a handful of stories that are more in keeping with the title of the book, but only a handful.
Luckily, Gibson and the artists involved in the project have realised that there is no way you can please all of the people all of the time and are moving back towards the everyday horror of volume 1. I’m looking forward to it.
