Glen Powell eyed for ‘major’ role in the DCU

It looks like Glen Powell is in talks to join the DCU and not in a small way.

The news comes from scooper Jeff Sneider, who reports that he heard the Top Gun: Maverick star “has been in talks with DC about a big role that requires a major commitment/multiple options.”

Powell is the man of the moment, having had meteoric rise in movies and TV shows in the last few years, so having him approached by James Gunn and Peter Safran to join the DC universe is hardly unexpected, but “a major commitment/multiple options” has our minds here at FTN HQ racing.

Who could he be eyed to play? Well…

Powell is no stranger to DC movies, having appeared in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises as a mouthy Wall Street trader who stands up to, and is beaten down by, Tom Hardy’s Bane, which is coincidental because, well, he has to be, for my money, being lined up to play Bruce Wayne/Batman, right?

I mean, he has the physique, he can play tough and for the Bruce Wayne side, he’s certainly not ugly and he is charismatic, so he’s ticking a lot of the right boxes. But…

Those are also boxes that need to be ticked for a lot of other DC heroes, so he might also be in consideration of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.

Reeves officially back as John Wick for animated prequel movie

In fact, realistically, there’s a myriad of heroes and even villains he could be right for but I have to say that the commitment thing really makes me think he’s going to be Batman.

Just as an aside, in a recent podcast, James Gunn said that the DCU Batman will be roughly the same age as Corenswet’s Superman and Powell is 38 compared to Corenswet’s 33, so not too far out and it also makes sense for Batman to be a bit older because by the time we meet him in the upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie, he will already have had a career and will already be on to Damian Wayne as Robin, meaning Dick Grayson and Jason Todd have already been and gone in the Batcave.

Thoughts on Powell being Batman, Green Arrow or another prominent name in the DCU? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
