If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that we’re not exactly in love with the Ghostbusters reboot here at FTN.
The prospect of a Bill Murray cameo got us angry, but that seems to have been only a rumour. We can, however, confirm that original cast member and series creator Dan Aykroyd is appearing in a cameo. According to Indie Revolver, Aykroyd was slated to appear in a cameo as a taxi driver in a scene with Kristen Wiig and the man himself has confirmed as much on Twitter:
Apparently he and Wiig will get into an argument when she demands access to his taxi to check for ghosts. Aykroyd bluntly states, “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts” and drives off while Wiig yells at him about using a double negative. And this is pretty much what is wrong with the entire concept of this reboot: it is taking the original and stamping on it. Hollywood’s cynical remake machine is pretty well known by now, despite Tinsel Town’s claims to the contrary. If Paul Feig’s claims that he had to reboot the franchise because there are people who aren’t familiar with Ghostbusters, who is this painfully unfunny joke for? If the scuttlebutt on this scene is true, then this reboot is clearly more firmly rooted in RoboCop territory than Casino Royale.
I need a beer…
