When it comes to setting the standards on super hero films, no one did it better than Christopher Nolan. His Batman trilogy, consisting of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises raised the bar in not only the quality we’ve come to expect from The Caped Crusader, but from gripping comic book adaptations on a whole.
Nolan himself played the part of executive producer on Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but although the 300 and Watchmen director clearly had him on board, he sought Nolan’s approval before using The Dark Knight in this year’s follow up, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, report Squareeyed.
With a seriously chunky feature in the new issue of Empire Magazine, we’re learning a lot of trivia ahead of the release of BvS. One such mention is Snyder’s recollection of the meeting he had with Nolan when he pitched the idea of a darker Batman, one unlike previous takes on the character: “Well, we don’t own these characters. When you’re done making Batman movies, someone else will [make them].” Is how Snyder recalls it. When speaking about Nolan relinquishing the characters, he said “I think he found it a little hard. I would feel the same way.”
When talking about the themes of the film’s story, Snyder followed up by saying “In a lot of ways Batman v Superman is a very personal concept. It is just two people trying to understand each other’s point of view.”
