TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends of Tomorrow Season 02 Episode 13: Land of the Lost

March 8th, 2017 by Todd Black Comments

Welcome back Captain. I think one of the reasons why I’m loving Legends of Tomorrow this season so much is because even in the “slower” episodes, there’s still a lot of great character moments. From big ones, to small scenes, this is a great cast, and the writers know how to use them well.

Just when you thought this episode would be about Rip taking control of the ship and using it against the Legends, it turned into something else entirely. Something much more fun. As Sara and Jax had to go into Rip’s altered mind in order to find the location of the last piece of the spear after he destroyed the medallion. And lest you think this is too convenient, it actually was used on Rory in Season 01, and he was all to happy to remind them of that.

All the while, the attack from Rip made the Waverunner crash in the Cretaceous period, which was where Ray was stranded for 6 months (don’t worry, they explain that too), and he, Nate, and Amaya had to go get a key piece in order to get the ship to work again.

In these two storylines, the team was divided up perfectly, all the stories mattered, and everyone got a chance to shine. Even Rory and Stein, who once again had the Odd Couple thing going for them, and once again, Rory showed that there’s a wisdom underneath the arson intentions.

I’m glad we got to see that Rip was actually well and truly a prisoner in his own mind. It made for a much more compelling episode, as Sara and Jax had to try and bring back the old Rip to save them. Seeing Sara face herself (in White Canary garb no less), and Jax face a much more evil version of Firestorm was really cool.

And of course, Ray talking about how he got the ire of a T-Rex was absolutely hilarious. But more than that, we got to see Nate and Amaya’s relationship evolve in a much more natural way than it did before in the “Turncoat” episode, but in a twist, it was Ray who brought info that some people might have forgotten. Amaya is the grandmother of Mari, who is the Vixen in the present, and bad things are going to happen to Amaya that lead to Mari becoming Vixen, and thus, her and Nate can’t be together…or can they? If we’ve learned one thing, it’s that time isn’t as set as people think, so who knows?

Oh and…how about that Gideon? Forget about logic or reasoning, seeing her in full human body was pretty cool. And likely one of the only times we’ll ever see that happen. So enjoy it! I know Rip did!

So, Rip is back, the team is truly whole again and now, we’re going to the moon! Yeah baby!
